Talk on the Lido on the 28 January

Happy New year to all members, or to step back briefly to the earlier days of the Burtons’ St Leonards:‘Opening rosebuds fair as ye, may the coming New Year be’

Our next Society event is a talk on the St Leonards Bathing Pool by Andre Palfrey-Martin @ 16.00 on Sunday 28th January in the Burton Room of the Royal Victoria Hotel. Opened in March 1933 the pool became popular both as a social venue and stage for national swimming and diving competitions. Post WWII the pool sadly failed to recapture its popularity, and it was eventually demolished in 1993.

Andre Palfrey-Martin, an accomplished historian and regular speaker on topics of local interest, will bring the story of the St Leonards Pool vividly to life.

It is quite likely that there will be the usual informal post talk gathering of members in the hotel bar.

We expect this to be a popular talk. As usual, to help with planning, please let us know on info@bsls.org.uk if you are likely to attend.

Members free, non members £5.

If you haven’t done so already you may like to check out the newlook Society website at https://bsls.org.uk.
