one of the first villas to be built in James Burton’s new development of St Leonards, c.1830, situated in Quarry Road at the northern end of St Leonards Gardens, it was originally called the Castellated Villa due to its Tudor/Gothic style, but was soon renamed Gloucester Lodge in honour of Princess Sophia Matilda of Gloucester who resided there in 1831.
