an 1860 plan by Francis H. Fowler, architect for the Eversfield Estate. It shows an extensive residential development beyond James Burton’s original phase of construction either side of Maze Hill and St Leonards Gardens, from the Archery Ground to London Road, now projected to extend from Bo Peep in the west to Warrior Square in the east, and north to Markwick Terrace and Tower Road. In this proposal, Pevensey Road and Dane Road appear as the primary arteries, extending and branching much further than was eventually built. In the upper left corner is a vignette showing a perspective view of Markwick Terrace with adjacent ornamental garden and fountain,
photographic facsimile of the original plan, 380 x 545 mm., minor handling creases, with a duplicate facsimile copy in poor condition, both in BSLS Archive.
