The next ‘turn up & go’ (no booking necessary) guided walk of Burtons’ St Leonards will be on the Bank Holiday, Monday 26th August, 2024 at 11am. Meet promptly for 11am on the St Leonards seafront (high level) opposite the Royal Victoria Hotel, Marina, St Leonards-on-Sea, TN38 0BD for a 90 minute walk around Burtons’ St Leonards. There is a steep slope (1:5 gradient) and the route is roughly circular. The nearest railway station is St Leonards Warrior Square.
St Leonards-on-sea was founded in the 1820s by the Georgian builder, James Burton and his architect son, Decimus. They made a purpose-built New Town that became the home of many eminent people, and popular with royal and aristocratic visitors of The Season. The town survived World Wars and neglect, and its late-Georgian and other buildings and spaces are being appreciated anew.
Our walk can be offered to organized groups, by arrangement with the Society’s volunteers. Contact via dedicated email: walks@bsls.org.uk and check for other upcoming walks on this Events’ page – https://bsls.org.uk/events/
